Hi guys,

Does anyone recall a youtube where the guy used a rodin coil and claimed
he had made a north only magnet ?

Would love to revist this.

Probably 12 - 18 months ago (I think)

Kind Regards, Penno

Hi all,

Assume for a moment that I am a complete novice !

Can someone please explain the reasoning why it would be simpler to make a
self runner if you could get your hands on monopole magnets ?

I think what I am hearing is NORTH only or more North than south.

I gotta say, I can not see how these could exist, but, hey, I am the novice.

Kindest Regards, Penno

@penno:

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but isn't it "conventional" wisdom that says that a magnet MUST have two poles? (wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet ). Something like if the flux lines are complete blocked that the magnet won't work.

Now the closest thing that there is to a "mono-pole" magnet is a "Halbach-Array" which has an arrangement of magnets that ALMOST cancel out all but 1 of the poles? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halbach_Array

Now, that being said and candidly ignored, couldn't we build a magnetic "V-Gate" that didn't have a "sticky-point" if we could have a mono-pole magnet? We might need to have a tightly "focused" magnetic field and have an arrangement where magnets are mounted onto a "wheel" and then they swing around into a position and is repelled by a same-pole magnet. . . . . . maybe.

sincerely,
