Self Repeating Pendulum

  If I were to build a pendulum with the intention of having it be self repeating, this is the way I would do it. I am confident it will work as it does follow engineered guidelines that conform to accepted principles in physics.
When the pendulum's weight starts it's swing downwards, it develops what is known as torque. Torque is an essential requirement in generating force. The definition of torque according to Merriam Webster.com "
1: a force that produces or tends to produce rotation or torsion <an automobile engine delivers torque to the drive shaft>; also : a measure of the effectiveness of such a force that consists of the product of the force and the perpendicular distance from the line of action of the force to the axis of rotation   2 : a turning or twisting force      This is what the swing arm on a pendulum does, it produces torque or a twisting force. This force can be used to operate a hoist. And if the swing arm of the pendulum extends beyond it's fulcrum, then it can also use leverage to increase the force developed by torque. With the diagram I am attaching, the numbers 1.8 and 18 are to illustrate a ratio of 10:1. This means that the torque the swing arm is generating is being converted into power which can be up to 10 times the torque being developed. Of course, this also means that the hoist will have 1/10th the travel of the swing arm.  When this force is used to lift scissors, if the scissors are opened to a spread of 90 degrees (2 45 degree angles), then the mathematical relationship is an opening of 70% with a lift of 60% on the primary (long levers) scissors. The short scissors (top and bottom) would add another 60% of the length of one short lever. This would give a basic ratio of 120% lift to a sideways movement of 70%. That would correspond with an efficiency rating of about 150% or being capable of producing 50% more work than expected.  And of course, when the swing arm releases the hoist mechanism, then a drum would then support the weight that was lifted by the hoist. When the weight causes the drum to rotate, it would increase the velocity of the pendulums swing arm. Excess energy could perform other work if desired, such as rotating a wheel type housing.  With the hoist mechanism, it would need to be off set to one side. If rotating counter clockwise, then the offset would need to be to the left. This would give it a different rotation than the extension of the swing arm on the pendulum, otherwise, it would not release.  Of course, most people realise that a pendulums greatest potential for inertia is directly beneath it's fulcrum. This is because it's inertia would be at a 90 degree angle to the lever supporting it's fulcrum. If the angle of the lever were not perpindicular to the force of gravity, then it's greatest point of inertia would change relative to a 90 degree plane to the lever supporting it's fulcrum.                                                                   Jim

@ e1; the overunity occurs when the second scissors mirrors the movement of the top or first scissors. This is because no extra force is required to operate the second scissors. What might happen is that in accelerating the weight being hoisted, the swing of the pendulum might be slowed. If so, what is known is that the most effcient place to accelerate the pendulum form an external source is as it is passing bottom center. This is because the pendulum's weight would be moving perpindicular to gravity's force.
In reality, the hoisting of a weight might not happen quick enough to be of consequence. And with only one extra movement, as long as it's acceleration is less than 9.87 m/s/s, it might not effect the motion of the pendulum as it would be operating beneath the potential acceleration of the pendulum.

For those who have experience with mechanics, this is a simple idea.
Unfortunately for people like you and AB Hammer, it seems it is your faith you rely on.
Myself, I do not mind working for what ever I might accomplish. Of course, this
does require me to learn otherwise how would I know what I was doing ?

  Well speak of the devil Alan. I was just thinking this morning how you used to tell me I didn't want to walk down this path among other things. Why I had my account deleted.
Truth is, my dad wants me to do it because he knows what training and experience I have. And unlike you, he's not hurting for the money either.
