It has been known to the PC world for a longtime now, that on a graphical display the eye cannot differentiate above 40 frames per second. You could have a video at 200 frames per second, and it looks the same at 50 frame per second. My question is this doable for home lighting? Could we not have a electrical mechanism that pulses electricity 50 times a second vs a constant stream? I would have to guess the old incandecents would not be able to take the abuse, but these newer CFL bulbs( or halogens) might be able to take the abuse. Maybe no bulb can handle being turned on and off 50 times a second. But it just seems like a waste to have a constant stream when one isnt needed. Just my 2 cents

my lights turn on and off 120 times a second, 60 cycle AC.
a filament is not going to cool down enough to matter between pulses.
just where are you going with this?
