Hi,

A solar cell powers a small motor that let rotate a plastic (pseudo) cristal that diffracts light as a prism.
You put it against a window thanks to a suction cup. When direct sun light comes through, the cristal rotates and small moving spots of rainbow colors are projected onto the walls of the room.
It's not an artificial rainbow, just a gadget to wonder kids (two of mine have one :-).
