The circuit provided by Akula needs tweaking.R13 1.2k and R12-460 was replaced by a 1watt 5k trimmer.The base of transistor connected to the trimmer center."Please test any unknown circuit on breadboard first before wasting time to create final PCB"
It's comical to know the KT805A is rated 60v but Akula did produce deception related to the incorrect voltage from the yoke to power the tesla.Rising above certain voltage would kill KT805A transistor same for 2SC5200.

If you got a 220v low power bulb 5w...10watt connect that to your variable power supply it needs to be below 18volts before you stop seeing any glow in the filament.

This is the simplified version of Akula circuit.Take top half circuit from R4 link it to both input ofTC4428(Replacement for 4 transistors in Akula circuit) which is powered by 12volts.As usual do test it on breadboard first.You will know the value of RV1 and RV2 eventually.IR2184 was replaced by IRS21091(8-soic) which the DT time 500ns can be further increased by trimmer or resistor.
