Free Energy will change the World - Free Energy will stop Climate Change - Free Energy will give us hope
and we will not surrender until free energy will be enabled all over the world, to power planes, cars, ships and trains.
Free energy will help the poor to become independent of needing expensive fuels.
So all in all Free energy will bring far more peace to the world than any other invention has already brought to the world.

   If the zeners  are burnt, they won't be doing their job of protecting from overvoltage or current.
Other guys have run this same circuit up to forty volts without overheating the fets, when using the 18v, 5 w zeners. I just can't obtain them here, yet.

Hey guys
Nick check this circuitry components http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u6gAUPlnTQ
This combination with the diodes R1560 (15A\600V), and TVs at 600W, my mazzilli runs as cool as room temperature even with currents up to almost 10A. The only heating is on the wires and tuning caps. I made it once and never disappoint it me in relation to component failures.
Especially diodes run always cool.

  Hoppy:
  Thanks for the tips.
   I have a question... My two small 12v zener diodes that are on the Mazilli circuit are conducting both ways. Does that indicate that they are burnt out? They conduct both ways while they are in the circuit, I have not tested them out of the circuit. Maybe the cause of overheating of the Fets?  As these fets should be able to handle the voltage/current levels from a 12v 4aH battery.

Nick,

You need to disconnect at least one side of each zener when testing to be sure. How are you testing the zeners? If you are using the diode test setting on your DVM then they should only conduct (give audible 'beep') in one direction. Also, whilst you are in test mode, make sure you check the other two ordinary diodes in the same manner.

With your Mazilli working correctly, a 30V / 1.2A rated PSU will be unable to deliver neither average or peak the currents required to run your 100W lamp array load and will be likely to fail unless it has output over-current protection.

@NickZ
The way I solved all transistors overvoltage and heating problems was simple - added shortly diode between coil and transistor in each leg. That blocks reverse current over transistor and cause BEMF to raise into much higher level in coil. Hope that helps ;)

Cheers!
