At 18:50 of this video he says that he does not believe, that the 1ns appearing on the Dally schematic is the correct pulse width, but he could believe in 1μs.
I think he said that because he was not able to generate such short pulses himself.

We could use an accurate transcription from 18:36 to settle this issue.

and yes do many tests as possible with it and see to try to fix mazilli.
But the moment you get TL494 mosfet driver circuit, that is one you would try to experiment with
to see results afterwards.
About mediator, use like 1 1/4 inch toroids if possible, or see to find another yoke. and try to use it
as one.
