Building an easy heater from burning H2 + O2

Hi All,
Chris from:
www.oupower.com
has currently designed a nice new electrolyzer with cheap
laundry powder boxes , so he can generate lots of
oxyhydrogen.
Now my question is, for winter time it might be good
to build a heater unit to burn the H2 and O2 in a controlled
and safe fashion.

Any idea, how to build a safe heater uniter ?

Then it could be seen, if the electrical input into the electrolyzers
would be less than the heat generated.

Maybe there is also a gain in this.
Must be tested. So what would be the best cheap to build
and safe heater ?
The next winter is coming in a few months...

I have seen the Brown's Gas welders, and I have seen Chris's little torch on the www.oupower.com website.  I have tried and tried to get a 2H2/O2 flame torch to burn and all I ever get is explosion.  I've used syringe needles also and no matter how tiny the hole, it never just sits there and burns.......it always just blows up.

I do not add electrolytes.  I don't use distilled water.  I use straight city tap water.  (It has chlorine, flouride, etc in it)  Is my mixture different than the others?  This confuses me.

Do different methods/types of current of electrolysis produce different "grades" of the gas?  (i.e. monotomic vs diatomic, etc)  I'd be real interested in an explanation if anyone knows.  Perhaps this is some of my problem with using the electrolyzed mixture as a combustion engine fuel.  My produced mixture simply will not burn like shown in Chris's photos.

Hi,
you might add some more air with an aquarium pump to the mix.
There was one guy on one forum, who did this and got a pretty slow
burning flame this way.
So just mix the oxyhydrogen with air in a "y" connetor with the air from an
aquarium pump.

Now the question is, what will be the best nozzle or valve to burn the
gas mix, so it can heat a cold room in winter ?
Xotec did show in their video a burner, that heated up a ceramic plate
or something like this. Does this make sense ?
Does this then heat the room air more ?

Or what would be the best device to heat cold air
wth  oxyhydrogen-air-mix-flame ?
What kind of "oven" could be build to do this efficiently ?

I don't know what the limits are, but the water torch we use is as follows:
1. Uses one line of a standard oxy/acteylene torch head.
2. Tip is a #0 size. (have not tried other sizes - yet)
3. Electrolyzer pressure is always maintained @8-10psi.
i.e. it turns on @8psi, shut off @10psi.
4. As soon as I open up a torch head valve the electrolyzer turns on
to maintain at least 8psi.
5. After the bubbler (or flashback container) no other gas injected,
e.g. oxygen, at this time.
6. Flashback does not seem to occur very often.

Hi all,
I just joined as well.  It must be a coincidence but I just posted
a link to a hydrogen fireplace/heater in a few other groups
that I frequent. There was quite a lot of discussions on wether it was a good
product or a waste of energy. If you are using the fossil grid to power the electroliser, you are not any greener, so this particular product seems to be geared to a higher end market of people who want to feel like they are doing the right thing. If you had an alternative energy source such as wind or PV to power the electroliser, it starts to make a LITTLE more sense. The efficiency numbers don't seem to add up, though. If you use wind/PV it would be better
and safer to just use the power for base boards or water heating than burning hydrogen inside. You wouldn't want to waste wind/PV on baseboards though. Heating DHW and radiant floor heating O.K.

There have been some concerns about the system but , they state that it
burns the hydrogen at production so there is no build up of gas. You have an option of venting the oxygen in to the room or an addition to the fire. Hydrogen burns almost invisible in day light, but in a darkened room it is pale blue. Adding oxygen gives it a yellowish hue, copper, green, etc. They don't say anything about an added oderant such as mercaphan that is added to nat gas so you can smell it. That would be a good idea. There have also been concerns about moisture buildup on an unvented unit. Hope this helps a little.
