TinselKoala

I want to thank everyone who may have contributed to this purchase, and especially Chet for organizing it. It really wasn't my intention to go "begging" in public, and I'm sure there will be some flak coming, but the help is much appreciated. It will help bring "TKLabs" out of the "Analog Stone Age" and into the 21st century. The math capability of this DSO is something that I've been needing for a long time. Let's hope that it does arrive at TEquipment on schedule and get shipped out to me in a week or so. Fingers crossed for a delivery around March 2 or 3.

Now I can only hope for some projects to come along that will require full use of the scope's capabilities! The EMJ project will be ideal for "burning in" and getting to know the scope, even though that project is pretty much done and done.

EMJ has posted a "revision" of his pdf document that no longer contains the "COP 1.7" claim. But the language in the first paragraph on his website is a really insulting turn-off, so I'm not even going to post a link to it.

TinselKoala congratulation with your purchase.I hope you will be very much  satisfied with it.
My 5 cents  into it is.
I would never buy new  equipment.

the Rolls Royce in oscilloscopes is  Lecroy
the used one is :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LeCroy-Waverunner-LT344L-DSO-Digital-Oscilloscope-4-channels-500MHZ-500MS-S-/331387057509?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d28353565

Some of you might think that this is a lot.

Think different:
Tektronix  is much cheaper .
All of them are reputable US manufacturers.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TEKTRONIX-TDS520A-2-CH-500MHz-OSCILLOSCOPE-OPT-FFT-FULLY-TESTED-/141579279688?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20f6c85d48

500MHz is a lot. for just US $359.00
and that is a cost of new Rigol  and no tax to pay.

The major point I have is not to criticize anyone but to show to the readers how  to get "the most  for less"
I have got more than 400 instruments in my lab , some of them as heavy as few thousands of  lbs,  and none of it  is new.
I hope you will find that note valuable.

Well
Tinsel is in a unique position at this moment...
we do have another home for "his" scope if he wishes to
acquire one of these?

I am sure the contributors would take no issue...
as long as the Koala is happy
?

I agree that buying used bench equipment can allow you to get higher quality equipment
at a cheaper price, but if the equipment is over say 20 years old, there can be bad/poor connections
due to corrosion and dirt build up in switches and pots, and electrolytic capacitors have a limited lifetime and
very old electrolytic capacitors may well need to be replaced. With old equipment of more than 20 to 30 years or so,
don't be surprised if some things like switches and pots don't work well, or if the equipment is quite out of calibration,
or needs electrolytic capacitors changed. If you can afford it, buying new equipment will likely at least save you
these sort of problems, if you don't have the time or desire to tinker with and refurbish older equipment.
Also, the newer digital equipment these days often allows file storage and USB and computer access and control
as well as many other handy features that older equipment does not have. Very handy features these days. :-)
All the best...
