John, can you tell us why your Grandfather used the Hydraulic Ram Pump?

How many Batteries did it use?

Where did he Plug it into?

   When the spring hadn't got enough flow to make the ram pump
operate he had an auxiliary electric pump which he ran off of
self oscillating coils but that had to be started with an old car
battery. Later on he invested in Edison Nife cells which proved
to be very reliable indeed.
  Unfortunately my other grandfather was killed by a steam train
  that was before my time though. He was deaf and had been
  working in a neighbouring farm and was walking home along
  the track.
