Keep in mind that area A is roughly at the supply voltage (actually a bit closer to 6V).  The peak voltage seen just after Q1 turn on (excluding the ringing) is is roughly 10-11 volts.

When Q1 turns on, current flows thru the primary.  The turns ratio of L1 to L3 increases the voltage at the R1/L2 junction above the rail voltage (the voltage induced across L3 adds to the rail voltage).  D1 is reverse biased so L2 can only play via cap coupling and leakage (i.e., very little).  Also, because D1 is reversed bias, little to no current can flow thru R1 as indicated by the current probe during this time.

Having spent only a short time looking at it, that's my take on it so far.

Yes, unless I read it wrong, MH has D1 conducting during FET on time, whereas the way it is connected (conventional clamping direction) D1 actually conducts only on the turn off of the FET, circulating the flyback current through L1  also through L2, L3 and the diode D1 until the current ramps down to below D1 conduction, at the end of current ramp down "C". It is at the end of this ramp that the DSR effect (E) is initiated.

Anyway, I hate to be a downer, but this is something like the 20th clue or incident telling you that this whole thing is not real and/or Chris really doesn't know what he is doing, no matter how long he has been researching this project.  So it is the Little Lost Sheep effect in all its glory.  The sheep were supposed to measure the power in and power out for their device.  Instead, the fence broke and there are Little Lost Sheep meandering around not knowing where to go or what to do.

This is a pattern that had been repeated over and over so it should not be surprising.  John Rohner supposedly designed and wrote the software for a spark ignition circuit for his alleged plasma motor but he inadvertently revealed that he did not understand how an automotive spark ignition circuit works.  Jamie of QEG infamy could not understand his own captured waveforms.  Wayne could could not string together three sentences about fluid hydraulics that made sense.

You note there is a kind of asymmetrical symbiotic relationship that can take place.  There are the believers that demand no proof or explanation and the promoters that talk technical but it's phony and they don't really know what they are talking about.

Speaking of "Honest" Wayne Travis, as part of a failed Kick Starter project ($275. pledged against a $150,000. goal), Wayne who used to disclaim the "Travis Effect" as just something his buddy Tom Miller came up with, both claims that the non-sense misdirection Tom Miller demonstrations show the supposed effect, and that he's proven it generates energy.  "Honest" Wayne's current pitch is that he needs half a million to build a 25kW proof of concept device.  That seems like tacit admission by Wayne that his previous devices that he claimed prove his concept won't even pass the Dansie 48 hour test of continuously producing any non-zero power without running down.
