Lumen - unit for luminous flux


The luminous flux ( also: light output ) of a light source is measured in lumens and provides information about the brightness of a lamp by measuring how much light a light source emits from all sides. The higher the lumen value, the more light the lamp emits.
The usual luminous fluxes in large indoor areas are 1100, 2000 and 3000 lumens. The required lumen output always depends on the height at which the lighting is hung (the higher the ceiling, the more lumens required) as well as the required range of the lamp and the appearance of the luminaire.
In order to determine the efficiency of a lamp, the wattage of a lamp is used in addition to the number of lumens. This is how you measure how much energy is converted into luminous flux. This measured variable is luminous efficacy and is measured in lumens / watt.
