And the consequences of humanity's massive act of atmospheric interference are now clear: what is hot today will become hotter tomorrow; extreme floods will become more frequent, wildfires more dangerous and deadly droughts more widespread. In short, things can only get worse.

I agree with the oil and gas corporations in this respect. They have lied, cheated and spread false information long enough to ensure that there's little we can do about global warming short term. The damage has been done and things can only get worse at this point.

I have to wonder how the fossil fuel people feel about the fact there family, there kids and grandkids will be burning in the hell they created over something as petty as greed?. They may have won this round but there children are obviously the losers and will pay for there ignorance. With psychotic parents like that who needs enemies?.

Do you think they even have a clue what they have done?, I think not... but they will in the near future.

Punishment only works as a deterrent when a perpetrator thinks
the probability of getting caught is high and the punishment severe.
Short term solution.

Punishment also tends to decrease the perpetrator's empathy for others.
Long term problem / crime increase / recidivism.

Historically this can become a vicious cycle, revenge is an empty cup.

When that kind of model is widely embraced by a culture, severity of the
punishments for a given crime escalate to the point, wherein, hands are
cut off for stealing a loaf of bread.

The "criminal" and those who impose "justice", both become increasingly aberrant.

The kinds of activities that such a society considers to be criminal, increase in number.
Disagreeing with those in power becomes punishable by death.

Interrogation becomes torture and the people live in constant fear.
The people are then enslaved (poverty is imposed) so that the ruling class can
further expand its domain.
