And a good day to you.  I think you missed something.  The rotor shaft has some one way bearings on it.  And there are two gears. So as the slide assembly goes back and forth one rack turns one  gear while the other rack and gear freewheel.  And vice versa.  So as the slide moves back and forth one rack drives one gear and then the other rack drives the other gear.  The one-way bearings keep the shaft rotating the same direction.  And he is not showing the flywheel which would be mounted to the shaft.
