Why did SM say earth magnetic field, not just ordinary magnetic field. Since we can deploy magnet anywhere we want. Did he joke or there are something different?

Look for more SM documents - I'm still finding new ones. In one, SM stated that the direction of rotation of the TPU's field was reversed when in the southern half of the world. Stan Deyo said essentially the same thing without naming the exact effects that were different.

If just need simple magnetic field, why not put several  strong magnets in the TPU which by pass the earth weak magnetic field.

At the time, SM thought it must be from the Earth's magnetic field.  He was not aware of other fields.

If you look at the correct image of the earth's magnetic field, see attached image, you see that the field lines come down all over - sort of perpendicular to the earth's surface.  Then look at the second image, also from the work of Davis and Rawls, in which we see that the fields of a magnet rotate in opposite directions.

Now, ask yourselves "what" was rotating with the earth's magnetic field because it sure as hell was not a magnetic field.
