Hello all,

Today I was able to pick up 4 double pane windows, 1 m x 1 m.
So it was time to do something I had been thinking of for quite some time.

I have covered the inside of the backwindow with black foil, very cheap.
2 windows back to back, lucky they are identical..

Next I drilled 2 holes in the sides for the water in and out. Next some nice sticky silicone paste inbetween, some 30 or so screws and presto, finished in 1 hour :D:D

The sequence of the materials is: air- glas-air-glas-blackplastic-water-glas-air-glas-air <-sun

Tomorrow I hope the sun shines so I can fil it up and see how hot the water gets..

Greetings Rene

Nice job! Some results already or it was raining?

After testing it as it is, please cover the back glass with aluminum (kitchen) foil, which should greatly improve, at least in theory, the results.
Will you report back? Many thanks,

Tinu

Hey Tinu,

Today I tested. I have put the panel on the ground with a about 20 degree tilt.
Sun shining but several coulds. First I tested without insultation on the back and on my themometer measuring through the upper hole it said 48 degrees, air, no water yet.
I have a small themometer with a wire, so I can put it inside through the pipe. .
Then I put a piece of 1m by 1m styrofoom, 5 cm thick , behind the back glass panel and temperature went up to 58 degrees celsius, still in the air inside not full sun shining.
Then I filled the whole thing with water and it started heating up, not very fast because it takes almost 50 liters.

I will report more when the sun is at full strength.
I am pleased so far, its very cheap, I can always use hot water at home. Or maybe use it to supply the washing machine.

Now I am figuring a way to make the second one, maybe put the glass closer together, so the watervolume is not so big. Or make a black metal plate with copper tubes. dunno yet.
The 2 glass plates make excelent heat insulaters, thats for sure.

Greetings Rene
