New Wankel design plausible?

Hey all!

I was thinking about this the other night, and was wondering if a new design to the Wankel style spiral motor could make it work without electromagnets.  The design I'm thinking of would consist of the normal spiral, a rotor (further away from the stators, because of the cubic inverse principle), and a free-spinning 'gear' on the inside of the rotor that would soak up the flux of the closest rotor magnet.  The idea would be: when the rotor is spinning, the free-spinning 'gear' on the inside of the rotor would 'short out' the flux of the rotor magnet that was about to pass into the gate, and when said rotor magnet was in the spot where it could be 'freed', the free-spinning 'gear' would have already rolled to the next rotor magnet.  I was thinking this would fix the gate problem, as it would 'shield' the rotor magnet for a short period of time to pass the gate.

Plausible, or am I missing something obvious?
