*Noting my newbie status, I had a few questions regarding these devices - Graphite Electrodes

What are the beneficial properties of graphite electrodes?

What are these materials going to accomplish and are they worth pursuing over stainless steel?

Is it possible to make DIY electrodes with decent properties out of activated powdered charcoal and some sort of adhesive, and if so, which and are there any instructions?
