   Nasa may be leaning towards plasma thruster engines.  They take xenon ionize it give it a magnetic lattice to jump away from and away they go.  Magnetically confined positive ions put out one hell of a positive electrostatic field.  Electrons feel the love and are accelerated towards this field.   The confining magnetic field makes damn sure the electrons don't get to the ion core but are shuttled around it and bombard a metal collector.  The secondary emission from the collector is very useable energy.  Depending on the cathodic ray energy or acceleration of the electrons along the plasma sheath the corresponding collision with the collector mass can result in all sorts of high energy particles and ionizing radiations.  Glow in the dark kinda shit. Someone is finally finding out you don't have to burn stuff to make things go fast. 
   By the way seems like space with all it's Birkeland currents and the Sun sitting there at 600million volts negatively charged would be a nice draw for anything positively charged like the little ion field described above.

I think everyone did.
But, for electronic research, pertaining to the U.S.S. Eldridge, what they may have done (?!?!) was take a well-studied principle of degaussing a steel ship and integrating that with a Tesla coil, somehow.  I may stress:  SOMEHOW.

The Space Shuttles main engine burns a mixture of liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen.  The result of the combination produces a water vapor trail behind the space shuttle.  Basically the shuttle is HHO powered.

The booster rockets are a different story.  I thought that the propellant was silver nitrate but when I looked it up this article say that it is aluminum powder and iron oxide for the fuel and ammonium perchlorate is the oxidizer.  NASA may have changed the ingredients for the boosters.  But, still the mixture is not as happy as the main engine's diet...

Look at this interesting cloud formation.  This was over my house Friday night.  While this is not my picture, I got to see this in real time.  All I could do was stand there dumbfounded, duh...

That is really an amazing photo and I doubt that is natural. People are saying that it contains aluminum and barium. Both will damage your brain and thyroid but holding your breath for hours until it passes will too. I hope you stay inside if you see something like that again! Scarey
