Fusion generator (based on the liquid-plasma sun model)

In the spirit of open source I am posting this illustration as an experimental design. Its design was influenced from various related fields of research. Here is the theory:

1.)Electric field ionizes sulfur (point of focused/converged microwaves)
2.)Sulfur reaches high temperature and heats nickel.
3.)Heat and pressure raises nickel's absorption of deuterium atoms. D2 atoms occupy interstitial lattice positions in sufficiently large numbers therefore avoiding the requirement for high heat (millions of degrees) to fuse.
4.)Nuclear collisions result from the tightly packed D2 atoms contained in the nickel.

how would fusion inside of the nickel lattice influence the nickel? i can imagine that high energy density of the reaction would just virtually tore the surrounding atomic structures apart,leaving nothing to reuse.
