I would think the more power you pulled from the system the smaller the eddy currents would get the system would have to be expanded until there was no heat being generated in the core for the load being run.
Eddy currents are not a curse but a gift.

But the coils should be up next to each other, tighter more compact.

Back when I was using the monitor to look at the magnets field lines I also did the experiment using a coil I cant remember if I used an iron core or if it was air cored but I did see the structure but very faint and large.
When I used the coil I pulsed it by hand the first pulse showed the structure fairly well but any pulses after that the structure was very weak.
