You want the magnetic field to slow down thats the reason for the thin core.

Hmmm. 

If anything, if the core slows down the field build or collapse, then the core must be conductive and eddys are the cause of the slow down.  If the core slows down the field, then that slow field will induce the windings slow resulting in less voltage and less current because some of the power that the field was built with gets lost in the core. If anything you would want a core that does its thing as fast as possible and not be a cause of losses.
