Yes many many things have been already known (invented) in the past lifetimes, during the centuries.  This Patten patent is a clever implemantation of driving an electromagnet from AC current, to prevent the magnetic poles from changing as per the AC current would dictate and this was a novel way of doing it in the era when the DC 'world' was still alive and electromagnets were operated from DC sources. 
I would like to understand what prompted you to mention this double coil electromagnet here, in connection with Dave45's postings?  Because Dave described two trifilar coil setup and we are here to figure out extra energy and unfortunately I fail to connect your dots...  could you hint some explanations?
The mechanical transmission gear with the 4 motor's torque summed into a single shaft is also a good solution, it can reduce power consumption but again I fail to see any other advantage. OF course, reduced power input is always a benefit, I agree.

Hey Dave

In the Utkin pdf's he seems to imply that having these opposing, oppositely wound coils in series and facing each other like you show on the previous page, that once you start the process in this config, that the oscillations build on their own and a spark gap is necessary to keep it from going to high on its own.

I have some pvc, wire and some 2.5in size flex loom stuff. The flex loom is like say plastic(no spiral wire, just plastic) vacuum cleaner hose(ribbed) split along the length. Ill use it to make consistent spacing between windings, like Don Smith coils.

Ive been meaning to try this for some time. Was just busy and more interested in what I have been doing.

Your drawing is not a Don Smith coil really, unless he has done it your way and I have not seen it, with the trifi windings. But the opposing coil concept is what he used.

Im going with your drawing first. I have no clue as to wire size or number of turns, so I will just wing it, equal on both sides.

Ok, gotta go get Bebe(my kitty) some food. If I just say food or hungry right now, she will MEEEEEEOOOOWWWW.  ;]  She has plenty of hard food and snacks, but she finished her soft food last night.  I try to give her a balance. And shrimp a few nights a week. I can hardly cut them up for her as she will not stop rubbing and bumping my arm waiting for me to finish.  I would give them to her whole, but she will take them elsewhere 1 at a time. I dont want that. ;]
