Okay Teets, I'll bite --
The battery provides your initial pulses (perhaps with a proper sized cap or better yet, a properly set up 555 timer switch). These pulses going round and round are the wind-up on the watch.  The pulses are going to ring in the bifi pickup coils due to their own capacitance.
