The problem with transformers is self induction in the primary, this causes reactive power thats why we use charging chokes using a single winding or bifilar you want self induction all you can get and then some.

One of our Russian brothers made a remark that the wires are the problem, to increase self induction you want a material that accepts electrons and protons easily------------Gold plate your coils.

Very easy using electrolysis.

Hmm one copper coil and one steel coil havent tried that  Thank You
