Dave current in a coil changes as the E*t product.  If you switch one coil into another such as you do through your diodes, then the instantaneous voltage spike can be very high, and destructive.

  Dave, I still don't think it's about the schematics, but more about the winding.  You've probably posted several working schematics without knowing the operating principle.



  Something to ponder about winding techniques.  In several systems (TK/Kapagen, Floyd Sweet VTA, TPU) there is much focus on cancelling/nullifying magnetic fields in a coil.

Attached are 2 examples of this.

  On the surface, they would appear identical.  Both nullify inductance.  The difference is that in figure A, the electric and magnetic fields cancel, whereas in figure B, only the magnetic component is cancelled.  The result is a standing electric field that is positive on one end and negative on the other.  This field is like the electric field in a unipolar generator.


  It explains why so many devices use a mix of CW and CCW winding techniques, it's the only way to keep the dipoles separate while still cancelling the magnetic field.

Using 2 opposed coils would result in the same effect, but would not as efficient since less of the magnetic field would cancel.  Then again, you'd need a magnetic component to actually utilize a standing electric wave, so perhaps it serves a dual-purpose.

maybe 2 bifi coils...  first bifi for primary for extra power  and second bifi the especial extra....
