Since there is only a single cable actually going to earth ground in the green box presentation, where is the mains neutral supposed to connect to the circuit?
It is being run by an inverter at start-up with no visible other cables to the device.
If one goes as far as to assume that TK snuck an AC cable into that presentation to provide the mains neutral, then one could go all the way and insinuate that he is running the whole show from an AC mains feed
So what do you think is likely?

I think it likely that TK in some way utilised a grid connection. I'm simply looking at every possible angle. Several more exotic ideas have been put forward, so I'm looking at more down-to-earth (excuse the pun) explanations. I'm no wiser as to the likely method TK used than anyone else on this thread but we are told its very simple indeed, so I do not rule out a hidden power feed, at least in the green box presentation.
