i was tried numerous variation ( with and without diode and cap)of the romerouk s and others schemes and not even once got amp draw below ~5 amp - its also true, i never tried rotate direction of diode 
so tomorrow is a new day and who now what will come up, just hopping for sharing results and conclusions

I visualise the cap as basically a crowbar across the MOT's secondary when there is no rectifying diode - which is probably wrong as romerouk is obviously doing it & not being covered in capacitor-bits!  Maybe the secondary/capacitor are behaving like a parallel tuned circuit but the odds of the combination being tuned to 50/60Hz and preventing current at this frequency flowing is remote.  Dunno, I'm confused.  Hope someone will explain it to me...

Edit:  The penny drops - just realised the cap is tied to the 'real' ground, not the electrical short I was visualising.....

Strange, didn't Harti say that JLN told him there was no CAP?  Or maybe I have it wrong.

In the diagram of the circuit you posted you show the diode directly across the MOT output and the Cap in series with the MOT output.  Wouldn't this blow the diode?  All the other schematics I've seen have those two parts switched places.  Thanks for getting some info from JLNaudin!

Seems odd to me too, though actually it looks like a voltage doubler circuit, the MOT charges the cap, then the cap and MOT in series have a high voltage to punch through the Spark Gap.  This might allow putting far lower input into the MOT.

@broli, no. The diode is correct and this is how it is connected in a MO. See one of my previous posts which shows a MOs output circuit...

Hey, pretty please, can you ask Jean-Louis what the thick wire poking out of the left side of the coil is? 
Some have wondered if it is an Antenna.

first (hundreds of them) test based on first scheme(index.php.jpg) and now based on callanans scheme- only i did not put metal plate under the MOT, just have connect it with one wire from outside which is stack into ground about 2 cm

Please. It's not my scheme, circuit or anything. I am just passing all of the information as best I can from JLN.
