Instead of buying an expensive Variac, try using an inexpensive Light Dimmer that is made to control Ceiling FAN MOTORS.

In my locale, they state they can control 10 AMPS, and sell for about $7.  That is much cheaper than a variac.

Few years ago I was working on Voice Light Dimmer and i can say that
variacs and dmmers do not work on the same principles. Variacs are variable autotransformers. They maintain original signal shape (sinusoidal). Dimmers and PWM modulators are cutting the positive and negative parts of signal to control the output power. If you use dimmer to power MOT i think you can badly disturb MOT's operation and efficiency. (This is just a theory.....give it a try with dimmer and post a results if you are successful.  )

Such a device switches the current at a particular time after the zero of each half-period of the sinus, so it creates strong transients and completely changes the wave shape instead of just modifying the voltage amplitude. It is rather intended for heating resistances or light bulbs with filaments, i.e. resistive devices. Impredictable results can occur with reactive impedances (motors, inductors...) so I fear it could add some undesirable effects with the kapagen.

...Cannot see the coil though? Perhaps starting taking measurements without a kapagen like coil, then adding one and see difference?

The ferrite core and the coil were both recovered from an old switching power supply (or UPS I don't remember). It is the pale beige/yellow block on the photo, which was a transformer in the range of tens of Khz whose I connected primary and secondary windings in series.
The Kapagen coil crossed by a wire connected to the earth makes no sense for me so I took an ordinary coil. If I observe only conventional results with my device, may be I will take time to make a coil as specified but now I think it is not essential.

You need quite a bit of voltage to make a spark in spark gap, but when air is ionized you can adjust voltage in very wide range.Tesla said about it too in his lecture about method of conversion.When air is ionized there is a spot on variac when spark hits resonance with circuit ,still being rich of harmonics.The optimal solution is just use ONE frequency and this is what Kapanadze found lately because his device is able to start from 9V/200mA battery which is impossible using spark gap (vide SR videos - he tried and failed)

About Voice Light Dimmer : look at the picture and think what is going on here ?
Surely looks like two signals ovelapping. This and my theory about magnetic interactions...  Fastest possible switching is done not by any electrical device but using a mix of two signals, but always look what is around circuit. Dig and find Steven Mark tips about TPU.
