... I picked induction from the Earth I am guessing. So the theory you speak of makes sense to me about running a mile long wire to produce electrical current using an Earth ground but, I doubt that it is patentable.  ...

I'd say you're right about the patentability.  Something along those lines of theory or practice fall into the field of Marconi's and Tesla's work and that would be in the public domain by now---unless something was dramatically improved and you could prove it.

  If we have a big copper plate in the ground and transmit a signal that will terminate on the plate.  The returning wave energy should have any wave energy imposed on the transmission line in the return wave.  The tuned conductor will reflect the primary oscillation which will contain the capacitance coupled oscillations in it.  If the signal imposed on the collector wave is filtered out and used to both maintain the collector wave and drive a load then any number of scources of electromagnetic waves can be collected.  The most plentiful here on Earth and probably throughout the cosmos are infrared wavelengths.  They comprise more than half of the energy coming from the Sun as well as the core of the Earth.
