@Oscar: Thanks for posting the Smith patent, it is really inspiring what Smith is doing there.
Amazing that Kapanadze can get away with successfully filing his patent as it is sooooo similar to what Smith has been doing there in direct comparison of their patents lol.

This patent is the first that is somewhat concrete and may be a basis to build something here !

Concerning the 500 Hz max. frequency of the spark gap that was mentioned here.
I think that was dependent on the drive circuit that has been driving that spark gap in that particular spark gap for the tesla coil. I see no reason why a spark gap could not be operated at a much higher frequency, i will investigate this of course to find out.
In Smith´s patent he is calling for a RF capable diode bridge after the (down?) transformation of the spark gap impulses (but why 100kV?!? does he even transform up to 100 kv range here?!). So where is that radio frequency coming from if not from the spark gap?
Except the harmonics of the arcing of the spark gap reach RF levels as suggested here.

What do people think that look at the Smith patent?
What voltage range is the circuit running after the pulsed DC is rectified and before it is transformed to the output ?

Spark gap on/off rates are limited by several factors. SGs can be used to generate RF.

Think of how using an SG feeding a tank circuit was used in early spark gap radio frequency transmitters. The frequencies radiated by the SG are wide band. The tank was used to narrow the bandwidth to that of the tank.

In radio transmitters the closure rate was limited to how fast the operator could send Morse code.

Frequencies upwards of several megahertz were common.
