I have been thinking about this for a while, well since I read the book on tesla's inventions, I just looked on ebay and there are some ignition coils for less than 30+10=$40.

OK, but my question is: is there a reason to get an older style over a newer or are they all going to do the job pretty well.

I am so not a car guy. I know people here would help, but it is better just to get the right thing in the first place.

I have been using my joule thief with one or more than one secondary and getting very great results. 450v at 5.6KHz, 220v at 33KHz,  141v at 208KHz. - all off the secondary.

If Don Smith is right, I should be able to get 450v over and over since it is coming from the magnetic pulse of the toroid and will get that as many times as I can wind another secondary.
If he is right about it.
But, he was using a spark to prove his idea too.

So, I probably should make a copy of the tesla circuit first, then make it work with the pulsing from a joule thief instead of the coil.

Gas/petrol cars already have a Tesla coil and spark plugs.  Not really an issue it can be tamed to become virtually invisible.
