Does anyone know what gas was in Tesla's multipacitor coil and how much vacuum is needed to get the effect? Sounds to me like since Tesla had to heat the gas from an external source, he needed a pretty high vacuum.

Rarefied can mean absence of oxygen or a vacuum from what I can see. I am thinking that oxygen is used since that is what Stan Meyer stated in his video and ozone sticks to anything with an electric field.

It is a ~30KV diode connected to an automobile spark coil. (autoformer)
