Hmm, sort of makes me think that if you have a collector plate(split cu tube/copper sheet form) inside a long coil, and the same on the outside(even a coil of wire) that output can be had across them. In the upper schem, I wonder if you just connected the 2 grounds together if it would still work? No earth gnd.

I see a wire going parallel to the copper plate with slit in it. The emission from the ferrite rod should be aligned to the flat portion of that ferrite. That is like the ones you take out of the radio. It has two flat cuts on it. He is broadcasting out of the ferrite and squeezing the energy through the slit across the Tesla coil. This is actually from inside to outside type of broadcasting. Remember that the two fields are 90 degrees apart. Although the copper forms a magnetic field around it's width or gauge the ferrite sucks in via it's polar projections and the wave goes down the length of it. This changes the response of the Tesla coil and works in reverse or has a reverse bias mode. What I think he is doing is polarizing the ferrite and squeezing the wave with the Tesla coils inductive capabilities (responsive). This causes a pump like action.
