I cannot explain it using the legacy model of the nucleus but I can make some progress using Miles' model of the nucleus.  See here and here.

When analyzing this problem, it is important to notice that free neutrons are unstable outside of nucleus (they decay in ~15min into a proton and a fast electron*).  This begs the question: "what makes neutrons stable inside some nuclei" ?
I think the most sensible answer to this question is that inside the nuclei the neutrons are shielded by the protons from the hostile environment outside and this shielding is highly dependent on mutual orientation of nucleons' spin axes.  See the attached animation of an Argon atom.

Any alteration in orientation of one nucleon's spin axis in respect to the other nucleons, can expose the neutron and make it vulnerable just like outside of the nucleus.  This axis alteration is known to occur by RF in Earth's magnetic field (or in an artificially generated magnetic field).
I think that twisting the spin axis of one of the neutrons (or the surrounding protons that shield it) can expose it and violate all the known decay rules (especially if the axis is twisted by 90deg. pulse like here).  This is most likely the reason why your Colman tube is the most sensitive when you "pulse your microphone".

* According to Miles, the emission of the fast electron happens as a result of neutron's collision outside the nucleus with a slow electron/positron, which causes the complete reversal of neutron's outer spin (it has 4 of them) and its conversion into a proton.  This spin cancellation can happen perfectly only when the spin axes are aligned and that is the reason why beta particles are emitted predominantly from the polar regions of the neutron or polarized nuclei.  The experimental evidence of Beta-NMR spectrometry confirms this directional correlation.

Exactly the same  is happening with Colman ( using  Cobalt)
the only difference is that  Colman is  from 1956 and is free to use without any patents at all.
If someone from   Russia would  experiment with it that  will be more fast way to  make free electricity than I do  here is USA.
Russians ( knowledge base)are much more advanced than me.
And  They  can get electricity in pure form  without converting heat to electricity.
I state that Colman was using 2 processes
1. direct electric extraction
2. heat as waste associated  with the process.


Andrea Rossi uses only heat  and heat conversion as he is afraid to go straight.   
That is why he uses hydrogen....


Medium is not important but process is important.
