No, charge is not an electric potential difference and charge is not synonymous with electrons, despite that all electrons, protons and ions are charged.

In the electron trap patent there is no galvanic connection between the positive end which attracts the electrons and the source of the electrons (negative ground) if I understand the drawings correctly.

That's a good question.  It certainly is possible to intercept or deflect the incoming electrons (see the attached photo of ions/electrons in a spark being deflected by a magnet).

However, those intercepted electrons constitute negative charge which is continually attracted to the cathode via the electric field. Taking this intercepted charge away from the cathode requires work (as much work as was gained), thus no free lunch here.

It is important to remember that electrons carry potential electric energy (PE) in the form of charge separation (e.g. in a capacitor).
This potential energy can be converted into kinetic energy (KE) (because electrons have mass) by allowing the electron to be accelerated by the attractive electric field of the charge separation.

When this acceleration happens, the PE decreases and the KE increases. If the electron did not radiate photons as it is accelerated then PE + KE = Constant.

If the charge of an electron is neutralized before it arrives at the cathode (e.g. by an encounter with a positive proton) then the cathode ("positive end") will not be neutralized and will be capable of attracting further electrons.  The kinetic energy gained by electrons in this process will not disappear, though. Can be utilzed later...

He's from north-eastern Slovakia (at least from album of photos).

Also I did not found any progress in his files. There are only different things tried and no successful replications.
