Making a simple commutator to convert 120dc to 120 ac

This simple commutator that is powered by a 12v dc motor, with less then 1 amp of power.
This convert 120v dc pulse to a 120v ac pulse.

I dont get it,  i thought a commutator allowed ac to be cut off at half cycle to produce dc current, done with a split-ring
