magnet question

i reciently saw a vidio where a guy dropped a magnet down thru a copper pipe and it almost seemed to float it way down to the bottom and then fell out to the table. why did it do that? what causes this? is it real?-phil

Simply because of the eddy currents induced by the magnet into the copper tube that causes a Lents law effect.
This is the same effect as when you short out a motors input terminals and the shaft turns dull to twist.

will this effect happen with any other materials, like aluminum ect.?-phil

Any electrically conductive material. The more conductive, the more influence it has.
