Did Lągiewka say something about about the velocity of M1 and M2 after hit by M in the first experiment ? Must be 1/2 v of Mass M and 1/2 of the energy must be lost at the end of the experiment ( transferred to the mass of earth)
So this technical arrangement in experiment 2  could be improved by adjusting the Masses M1 and m in such a way that all momentum of M is transferred to the small mass m.

Is there a paper where this experiment is described ?

This principal - although not in  the exact same way and much less efficiency - is used in the hydraulic ram pump invented 1772 by John Whitehurst:
