Wehave the 24 sections made and sanded very well, but we are not doing something correctly. Can't get the ring to magnetically lock.     Are you just coiling shellac-ed wire 20-30 turns and shorting that battery to the wire ENDS? Our plywood center is a little smaller than needed so it is not preventing a solid fit of the pipe sections.  The sanded areas are very smooth machined and should provide for near total contact per section.

it doesnt have to be perfect. of course that will always be better, but as long as they are touching all the way around the circle it should lock.

you need a pretty heavy wire, 22g didnt work at all for me.

hang a small magnet over the top, slightly off-centered.
you'll see it turn another direction once the device is charged.
and the pieces will become magnetized. adhering to one another.


if you still have trouble, theres a couple things you can try, one is to use a stronger battery.

the second, if you coil a wire in the opposite direction around the piece next to your coiled piece, and connect the two wires front to back, back to front.
then touch the battery between the two joints.
this will double the power

possible causes::  segments not in full-contact
                         not enough induction current/voltage
                         too much permeability in your pipe.

Ok  our wire WAS 22 gauge!  Will find heavy wire and try again.  And will charge with my car battery.
