Just in, researchers develop a biofuel that can work in your current gas engine.
Details on the process are pending and needed so we can start a discussion on making our own fuel at home.
From the article the most I could grab is that it is compatible with all car engines, more powerful then ethanol, and the fuel name isobutanol.

Thinking of the possibilities this could make the average American person the new oil tycoon might not be a bad idea to start saving all that Texas T from your back yard this summer who knows it may be fairly simple to produce some green fuel from a not gut reflexive waste after all for those of you with a weak stomach!!!

Edit to add the following on the process:
There is not a lot of IP possible with a organism that occurs naturally, the "magic sauce" only comes into play when they try to engineer the little buggers to eat cellulose rather than starch. In the Clostridium family there are organisms the digest cellulose and organisms that metabolize starch into isobutanol, grow them together and sooner or later the little buggers are going to do the  thing and exchange DNA amongst themselves; if your lucky you'll get a critter that does both and you've then made an end-run around all of that IP by avoiding the engineering.
