Title: Can I disable the video on the home page????
Post by: Magluvin on July 08, 2011, 12:30:06 PM
It is always on auto play?  One problem that I have and Im sure some others, some internet companies are limiting data per month, and the one I have is VirginMobile.

Every time im on the home page of OU.com, even if I pause the vid, it is still downloading content and eating my MB er GB for no reason at all, as I have already seen the vids.

Also it slows down an already slow site due to advertisements.

Mostly though, I want to curb how much unnecessary data usage is happening.  I get 5gb on an unlimited plan, but after 5gb my speed is slowed till the next payment.
I dont want to be slow. ;]

Hi Mags,

There is the Adblock Plus for instance as a good tool for such killing situations...
I use it embedded in Firefox browser.

I use Firefox + Adblock Plus.
It simply removes youtube and other stuff you want to remove from the homepage or any page.

Or you'd use the Flashblock plugin for Firefox. It adds a small "F" button to each flash video. And the video is not loaded until you click on it.

Given that we all hope your browsing with FireFox,
FlashBlock is essentialand politically correct,
as it presents referrals for income,
but requires a click to start streaming.

On the advertisment issue,
there is no politically correct answer.

82%  of my host file is for this site...

If the whores had fast servers,
it wouldn't be an issue of course,
but we all know the true answer
to that plaguing problem...

Why, o-why,
if they are making ubber money,
do they all have such horrid load-balancing servers ?

Some usefull addons:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/unlinker/versions/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/download-embedded/versions/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/versions/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/versions/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yes-popups/versions/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tineye-reverse-image-search/versions/

There are billions of addons, these are all V2.0 compatible...

Put this into your Ad blocker and it kills all the ads and heavy frame graphics on this site.  Also blocks the youtube frame starting on home page. I used Ad block for years since it first came out as beta and never looked back:)

'Flashblock' add on for Firefox.

Without question 'flashblock' is one of the best add-ons for firefox. Used with 'NoScript' they give you back the web pages you dreamed of.

Just content!

True, and I've posted that a thousand time before,
But listing the the most previous 500 posts listed
DOESN'T SOLVE the problem ?

It is now updated, and says it is a playlest,
but still it auto-plays non-the less.

providing auto-play choices is
all that needs to happen here

The entries you posted were not that that surprising Bolt,
they are still a good selection of course, but I noted this.

This forum app has a tendency to self-destroy
the word wrap justification if large pics or bad ads
push the automatic word-wrap function beyond bounds.

By removing the line items you have listed ,
the mile wide post problem goes away too.

A wonderful side benifit !  :)
