Hi all,
I have just pulled apart a transformer from a microwave and inside is a coil of about 26 guage/0.40mm wire.
I am making a Bedini ssg motor and want to use this wire for both coils in this circuit.
I know the instructions call for two different sizes of wire to be in the bifilar coil but this wire is free and I was wondering if anybody has wound a coil with this thickness of wire.

As far as I can remember 2 of these 'motors' do not have 2 different sizes of wire.
I used 0.5 mm but #26 gauge (0.4mm) should be OK.

Thanks for the reply. I am getting frustrated with this circuit. I have tried many different coils with varying amounts of windings from 200 to 1100 and coils with same size wire and two different sizes of .4 and 1.0mm.
I have tried the original weak magnets, some stronger ones and some super strong ones.
I have tested the coil and found that you only need 200 winds to get 5 ohms resistance with 0.4 mm wire.
I have set everything up exactly as the original schematic.
I have noticed that no matter what coil I use, I can only read .03 pulse across the base to emitter.
If I disconnect the charge battery, I get s light on the neon without the skate wheel spinning.
This won't beat me, but I'm running out of options.
Any help appreciated.

What do you use for the core of the bifilar coil?
Theoretically, the neon should not light if the charge bat is disconnected *and* the rotor is not spinning. Your circuit seems to behave as a joule thief...

I m using soft wire cut into lengths as the core.
Test no 1 works fine but I get only .03 volts or zero with test 2 regardless of the type of coil with or without a center core.
If I short the collector to base, the wheel rotates but hangs up after a while so this is bypassing the trigger circuit.
I will buy the Lincoln R60 welding wire today and try that as a core.
I am getting the coil wound professionally at the local motor rewinding shop today with 0.5 and 0.8 so I hope this helps.
My coil former is from a roll of soldering wire and is plastic, 5cm long, 5cm wide with a core of 2cm.
Thanks again for your help so far. I know when I find the problem, It is going to be something really simple but at least I will know what doesn't work.
