Title: True Diamagnetic??? What is this stuff???
Post by: nightwynd on July 28, 2006, 10:38:23 AM
Hey all, found something interesting on youtube....do a search on strange metals and you will find the following link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYtO_sxk6Og&search=strange%20metals

I really wish I could just post the video itself, but....you know...youtube :P

Anyone know what this stuff is or how it works? Any ideas on how this could be used in PMM's?

Hi,

There is this site showing pyrolytic graphite that is highly diamagnetic and does not need to be frozen to have this effect:

Sci-toys also sell this material in small quantities.

I'm not too knowledgeable about diamagnetic materials, but would it be possible to use their electron spin properties (especially pyrolytic graphite) to prevent/block eddy currents from forming in certain interactions that otherwise would create them?

can anyone tell me what this matter is?
http://leedskalnin.com/ExperimentPhotos.html (http://leedskalnin.com/ExperimentPhotos.html)
It is in the bubbles that form as the acid takes in parts of the zinc electrode!
In fact, no matter what matter  ;) you dissolve, the bubbles are the same...
The bubbles act like tiny magnets.
I have watched the matter grow as the bubble absorbs other bubbles, and it does so this way...When the small bubble first comes out of the zinc, then some of the other bubbles go into it..and the white matter appears as a spongy or heavily cratered asteroid, then as the bubble absorbs more bubbles the matter becomes less cratered and appears smooth, though it is not really....I also note that there is always at least 1 cratered area and this may be due to the pressure it exerts on the inner surface of the bubble? who knows....The dark ring around the bubbles is composed of tiny needles of zinc that have been stripped off. They align themselves along the circumfrence of the bubble and are in many layers like brickwork..They appear flexible and sometimes i notice a small outburst on the bubble circumfrence that expells the little needles from their alignment...then they do nothing and i consider them dead, for no bubbles come out of them>
I would like it if somebody else could try this....simply place acid and small piece of zinc (from plated nail ect) under good microscope....try other types of matter....the bubbles are always the same....vinegar will work as acid on this scale....
Many bubbles together form a matrix, and at every join point there appears to be some light, and the whitish matter is in all the bubbles?
The matrix is not stable, for the larger bubbles absorb the smaller until they burst.
