I had this untested idea for a v-track to put up here maybe someone has some ideas to add to it or spot any problems. Yea or Nay.
The idea is we know we can get linear motion on a v-track up to the gate and then it stops dead. The thought is to use the ends of the rotor to change the angle of the track near the gate so it heads in the opposite direction, back and forth. In theory anyways.
The picture is a simplified version without any support structure shown. The rotor could be mounted to a linear bearing in the middle.
Hi DTB, I had drew up a similar idea in the past except where you have the stop pins I had coils and the stops were piezoelectric. The idea was that the "rotor" magnet would be used to operate the piezo and the current fed to the coils which would attract/repell , unfortunately what I know about electronics would fit on the back of a postage stamp.
An oscillating V-track is working like any other oscillation system. The moving mass is bouncing between two repelling forces.
In such system where there is no energy input, there is no positive feedback that can feed the moving mass with energy.
Without loss, the moving magnet will continue to bounce back and forth with the same frequency forever.
