Indeed they are.

I own three Curtas, an early Type I and two Type IIs. The Type 1 is "one-owner" before me, the person I bought it from bought it originally from a Curta factory rep at a trade show just after they were in full production. It is in "as new" condition although I don't have the cardboard box it came in. One of the Type IIs is in good condition and has the plastic case. The other one is a rare black Type II with metal can, that I sent to Jack Christianson at TimeWise for full repair, cleaning and refurbishing. There are some bleached spots on the metal can but other than that it is 100 percent perfect.

Unfortunately my Curtas are in storage in a remote location so I can't get to them to demonstrate them. But the link you posted has a link to a Curta Simulator that shows how they work.

Thanks for the "blast from the past"... the story of the Curta is an amazing one and they are indeed amazing little machines.
