Cool - guess the PTB finally decided to let some cats out of the bag rather than destroy the planet with oil and coal. nuclear fission etc.    Hard to find much better scientists and credentials than they have at Lockheed Martin.   They are finally jumping on the bandwagon that got started long ago with Pons and Fleishmann and some others (Correa brothers?).   Love this statement from the Lockheed site:  "Energy created through fusion is 3-4 times more powerful than the energy released by fission."   Hopefully this becomes a real world usable energy source soon as they imply.

This concept (fusion in strong magnetic field) has been tested (unsuccessfully) since 1950's. Google "Tokamak". Hope LM can do what others couldn't.

My guess - nothing more than made up rubbish designed to get money from the government to do more research. 2 years later they will announce the work was unsucessful  but they are getting close and they need more money to try and change the laws of physics.

To some extent you are misrepresenting the science. Hot Fusion science has been around
as long as fission has been, because of it's link to the energy source of stars. Cold Fusion
is a completely different thing and was named that because that process was what seemed
to be happening. Cold fusion science at least for now and the foreseeable future is completely
independent physics.

While controlled hot fusion was very difficult and very expensive and the US government
kept up a very damaging cycle of continously asserting and then withdrawing monetary
support for the primary magnetic confinement method, physics never said that it was
impossible. Fusion is based on open science, so contenders like Lockheed can come alone
are free to pick and choose from various fusion methodolgies, meanwhile in the background
the giant ITER fusion machine rolls ponderously forward in completing it's engineering data
base. It think the US may be stopping this out of control refunding business being afraid of
being left out entirely by "up and coming" and less "no can do" parties.

It's sort of like a scientists saying you are going to the moon, it difficult and it's very
expensive, and theres a lot that you don't know initially. But if you have the commitment
to do these things, then you are going!

I think Hot Fusion critics need to move away from their "always in the future" clever
slogans because they seem to be rapidly running out of decades. Maybe they should
pick another area to mock ITER fusion reactor like it's lack of electrical generating capacity,
and to do this before the facts begin to speak for themselves. This is multigenerational
science and not some lone theoretic excentric crazy making these claims. Not everybody
was born yesterday and some people know where the dead bodies are buried. The
problem concerning Fukashima and the like is that unfortunately there really are dead
bodies.

If you actually believe the US Government went to the moon and it was simply not a method of siphoning billions of dollars in tax payers money for a NASA Disney like production than sure go ahead and believe we will have cold fusion in 5 years as well.

The US government did not go to the moon, the astronauts did.

Shhh, don't let anyone know about the wormhole portal under the Capitol Building.
