Title: Major security issues. Update your browser!
Post by: Theoretical Research on January 06, 2018, 02:13:50 AM
Unless you're living in a cave you've probably been reading about the major security issues caused by CPUs. This article is on headline news.

Why Your Web Browser May Be Most Vulnerable to Spectre and What to Do About It
http://fortune.com/2018/01/05/spectre-safari-chrome-firefox-internet-explorer/

I use google chrome, but they won't have an update to stop this vulnerability until Jan. 23rd. Until then, Google now recommends chrome users turn on a feature called "site isolation." Here's how:

If you're using Microsoft or Firefox, then make sure they're updated.

Until all of this security vulnerabilities are solved I'm going to stay away from iffy websites.

Good luck!

Make sure Windows, Mac, or Unix/Linux OS is up to date. It might be too late for me. On my Windows 10 I just clicked the button to check for updates. It started downloading an update, but far before it was done it stopped and then said there are no updates.

Windows Update often has problems. For example, Windows updates can sometimes fail to install
if you have software applications or drivers installed which cause a conflict or issue with the installation
of an update patch. The latest Windows patch for the CPU bug issue may not install if
you have certain types of anti-virus software installed. If you click the 'Update History' link
in the Windows Update window in Windows Settings in Win 10, you may see some more details
about your last Windows update attempt. If one or more Windows updates failed to install, there may
be some details in the 'Update History' window.

All the best...

I would suggest adding Ublock Origin and Noscript extensions for all browsers.  I dug a bit deeper into some of the info on the Meltdown and Spectre and found a couple programs straight from Intel that let you know if your Intel CPU is vulnerable to some aspects of these bugs.   My particular I7 seems to not be vulnerable so some of the news being put out there may be a bit overblown.   They also say there has been no known implementations of these two bugs by hackers yet ....  Also noted in my reading was that in most cases a hacker would need hands on your computer to implement these hacks.   But if you are already compromised in a serious way that they have control of your computer remotely then they still might implement these bugs.  However if they have that level of control remotely then it's easier for them to get data or cause problems anyway.

Because you are an OU-researcher the Men In Black have since long invaded your computer. Nothing will save you!

The spy-software in your PC interfered with the update, but the next update-attempt will work because they rectified the bug in the spy-software.

They watch, they listen, they interfere, they have you on a short leash. Run and hide!

Greetings to the lost comrades, Conrad
