So this guy is saying that when the solar panels get energised they give out a magnetic field?
How much artificial light does it take to energise those small panels I wonder?
Not played with them myself, but does a light source from a bright LED energise the solar panels as well?

Not exactly. The solar panels don't give out a magnetic field. He's taking solar generated electricty and running it through a coil to repulse against the base stator magnet while using a frictionless magnetic bearing. The axle is easy to construct. I've been having fun playing with a neo version.
Interesting question about LEDs. I am 99% positve it would after a quick test on a solar powered calculator and my Brinkman LED.
Ah now I see, after re-reading the site it does indeed state there is a coil being energised below the Solar Panels.

On a previous page it stated Photons (Magnespheres in the visible range) energize the solar cells with pure magnetic energy which causes electron flow (electrical current).
This is what I took as the cells giving out a magnetic field.
Interesting to see what power a LED would produce from the cell compared to what power is needed to drive an LED?.
ummmm another wacky idea emerges LOL
But seeing daylight is free anyway, who says you need artificial light.
Would be interesting to see this scaled up indeed.

Seems like a silly concept. All he did was replace a single external solar cell with 4 moving solar cells which only adds weight to the axel and make each solor cell less efficient. Plus the LRK brushless motor is configured much better. The coils are stationary stators on the outside and the static magnetic fields are on the rotor/armature assembly inside. Also it would require a lot more power to provide artificial light then you could harest from the motor. Solar cells are only 20% efficient and the motor probably less... Neat idea though. I would still just use a LRK and hobby solar cell myself.
