Can triacs discharge capacitors into the primary of a tesla coil?
This would permit low voltage high current operation and absence of spark gaps reduces EMI but not sure if there are any tesla coils incorporating triacs instead of spark gaps.

Hi there, Do mean an SCR by any chance? the problem with an SCR in it's conductive state it has a resistance of about 5 ohms and a depletion layer of about .5 volt or so that can't easily be over come and there is another problem with trying to turn the device off very quickly and if being used directly as the power device as it's a p.n.p.n bipolar device.
A MOSFET device would be a much better device as it's conductive resistance can be as low as .005 or better but you would have to totem pole them and bias them correctly to cater for the huge back EMF pressure would be an easier problem to solve.

Triacs are bidirectional thyristors.
